OnePlus 5 running Android 8.0 Oreo update spotted

OnePlus could be bringing in the Android 8.0 Oreo update to OnePlus 5 sooner than expected with reports suggesting that the smartphone manufacturer is already testing the update.

Watchful eyes spotted OnePlus 5 running Android 8.0 Oreo on Geekbench and that’s a direct indication that the latest Android will hit the OnePlus flagship – at least in beta if not the final version soon.

When OnePlus 5 was launched it ran Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and while that version of Android was latest at the time, Google has moved onto higher pastures and this has led other smartphone vendors to jump the Android 8.0 bandwagon as well. More and more manufacturers have joined the race of bringing Android 8.0 Oreo update to their smartphones as soon as possible and the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is no different.

OnePlus has been quick with its Android 8.0 plans and has already released Oreo beta updates for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. While there have been no releases for OnePlus 5 yet, the benchmark indicates that OnePlus is readying up a beta version of the software for OnePlus 5 owners to launch soon.

OnePlus 5 is the latest flagship from the Chinese smartphone company featuring a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Optic AMOLED display supporting sRGB and DCI-P3 colour standards, 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5, a Snapdragon 835 processor, among other features.
