Sri Lanka has chose to bat first after winning the toss against Pakistan in 1st test match at Abu Dhabi cricket stadium.
“We have to remember the disciplines (of Younis and Misbah) and whatever they told us should be implemented on the field and start afresh”, said Ahmed, who has already led Pakistan in one-day and Twenty20 worldwide. Though in recent encounters, Pakistan’s Test record against various sides is better than Sri Lanka who bagged just one win in last five Tests whereas the former clinched two.
Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, who make his debut as Test captain, is confident that his team mainly comprising young players will cope with the absence of two cricket legends after their retirement.
This is the first test match Pakistan is playing without heavyweights, Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.
Pakistan will use experienced batsman Azhar Ali on number three after he opened the innings in the last 12 months and will promote Asad Shafiq from six to four.
The first test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will start from 28th September at Abu Dhabi.
“The Sri Lanka squad comprises bowlers with fine bowling performances, our team is balanced”, he added.
“A new era is about to begin for [Pakistan cricket] after Misbah and Younis”.
Though assured of a good display by the team, the head coach said that it will not be easy tackling Sri Lanka and we are not treating them lightly. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 Test series whitewash at the hands of India.
