Amazon unveils a huge hardware refresh, including four new Echo devices

The Echo Plus becomes a smart home hub that can control multiple devices, giving it the higher price point.

Amazon gave the Echo Plus “more powerful audio”, the firm said. The Amazon Echo Plus will be available in white, black and silver. And the Echo will soon be able to make free calls to landline phones in the U.S., Canada and Mexico – a feature that Google recently added to its Google Home speaker as well. But here is a thing, it works over the internet so if your internet is down then it will just sit idle.

For the first time in almost three years, Amazon updated its smart Echo speaker.

There’s also a new flagship Echo model that’s shorter and, wrapped in fabric, softer than the old one. That is $80 or 44% cheaper than the price for the original Echo. It is the first major upgrade of Echo nearly after three years.

The Echo Plus looks more like the original Echo, but now includes a built-in smart home hub. Amazon is also now running an offer of a free Philips Hue bulb for the same $149 price for a limited time. A wave of statements regarding the move has come to light, with both companies pointing the finger. YouTube used to be available to our shared customers on Echo Show. It’s no mistake that Amazon led with alarm clock functionality.

As if that wasn’t enough, Amazon also announced the Fire TV 4K. Under the hood, the device is powered by an Amlogic Quad-core 1.5GHz processor and Mali450 MP3 GPU, along with 2GB of memory, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and 8 GB of storage. The $179 Apple TV 4K also earned an “excellent” rating in PCMag’s review. Good deal, we say! The Best For Last: While Amazon won’t be producing it directly, its voice assistant will be featured in future versions of the Big Mouth Billy Bass, the popular wall-mounted talking fish. This means that the first will be able to lip sync and dance when paired over Bluetooth.

This September 27 Amazon did the same and announced several more devices with Alexa.

Among the slew of announcements, we did not get to hear about new Kindle e-readers. The original Echo speaker debuted back in 2014 so its time for an update anyway.

Today, however, Amazon unveils a new streaming TV box that features both 4K and HDR, but it is insanely affordable. Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below!
