Brandis criticises Abbott’s ‘bizarre’ call to ban Macklemore ‘gay anthem’ at NRL

‘As a former NRL player married for the past 12 years to my wife and with five children, I demand that the NRL reconsider its political position and remove LGBTIQ politics out of the awesome sport of Rugby League’.

Spokesman David Goodwin said the grand final was “not a PC lecture theatre” and it was “bizarre that the NRL would choose to use its half-time entertainment to push a message which it knows millions of Australians disagree with“.

‘Footy fans shouldn’t be subjected to a politicised grand final.

He’s also now been accused of “politicising” the game just by performing one of his biggest hits.

High profile “no” voter and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott joined in the chorus of calling for the song to be banned.

Despite the petition and the fetid ramblings of an ex-PM, Macklemore and singer Mary Lambert WILL be performing Same Love at the GF on Sunday and it’s gonna be a bloody handsome moment.

Speaking on United States radio show The Cruz Show overnight, Macklemore said he’s well aware of the controversy surrounding his performance.

“For Mr Abbott and anyone else to say that it should be banned I think is a freaky thing to say”.

Macklemore has responded to the controversy surrounding his upcoming performance at the NRL Grand Final, after being criticised by “angry old white dudes” for planning to perform his marriage equality anthemSame Love” before the big game.

“I’m getting a lot of tweets from angry old white dudes in Australia”.

“We have seen political correctness run riot on a whole host of issues, but this is the first time that the Australian public have been asked to cast their verdict on all of these developments”, he said.

Macklemore – aka Benjamin Haggerty – has said he couldn’t be “more honoured and excited” to perform his hit “Same Love” at the Grand Final. I’d go more towards “batshit insane nightmare times”, but that’s just me.
