Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette has ‘similarities’ to Ian Wright – Wenger

“You look at the players who performed here and left, and you come back to me after”, he said. He’s been very good around the dressing room, he’s got that little bounce about him which people tend to from his area (south London).

“He did not ask to leave, it was a mutual decision”.

But Wenger, whose side will play BATE Borisov next week, said he missed being involved in the tournament after such a long run of competing in it.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON loved to brag that the career of any player who left Manchester United was automatically on a downward trajectory.

“Of course I sympathize with [Oxlade-Chamberlain], with everybody”.

The Arsenal boss said that the loss of Gibbs hurt more, however, since he had been at the club from a younger age – and had watched him develop into the player he is today, taking responsibility for shaping him into a full-back from a left winger.

The Arsenal manager is at the beginning of a demanding week, in which his team face West Bromwich at Emirates Stadium on Monday and return to their home ground for another Premier League fixture against Brighton on Sunday, which kicks off at 12 noon.

“And the last few games against Chelsea, we have always come out on top and the team was confident we could do the same again”.

Lacazette’s playing style has drawn comparisons to Wright since he joined Arsenal as the club’s record signing from Lyon this summer, and Wenger said the two definitely have things in common. He wanted to play – he’s 27, or 28.

“[Academy players] carry the values that you think are important, which are based on mental qualities, humility, respect and commitment, and as well football qualities which means you always try to play in a positive way”. Gibbs came through Arsenal’s youth system but he left in search of more regular football.

“It was a hard decision but on the other hand when a guy has given you so many years you have to accept that if he is not sure to play. Sometimes you lose players in these competitions”.

Pulis added: “He’ll look forward to it, he did really well there as a player, I’m sure he’ll get a good reception”. Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck and Francis Coquelin will remain sidelined with injuries.
