Dundalk, Blackrock, Drogheda and former national victor Tallanstown have all retained their gold medals at the SuperValu Tidy Towns awards for 2017.
The lovely Laois town of Abbeyleix has managed to retain its gold medal for Tidy Towns again this year.
It also claimed the award of Ireland’s Tidiest Village.
The announcement was made at a ceremony at The Helix in Dublin.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, Minister Ring said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Birdhill; a really worthy victor”.
Ennis has once again been named Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre.
Birdhill in Tipperary has been named as Ireland’s tidiest town for 2017, coming out ahead of 870 other towns and villages vying for this year’s title.
SuperValu Managing Director Martin Kelleher also paid tribute to the winners and all the communities who entered the competition.
Abbeyleix communities make a mammoth effort every year for the Tidy Towns competition.
They do daily litter patrols and sometimes even twice a day.
The TidyTowns competition is organised by the Department of Rural and Community Development and sponsored by SuperValu since 1992.
