He added that SDF, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, also captured the nearby al-Izba gas field.
USA -backed forces on Saturday seized a major natural gas field in Syria’s Deir al-Zor province from Islamic State militants after days of fighting close to the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, a group commander said.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks the war in Syria, said SDF fighters have not yet taken the field in the province of Deir az Zor, saying fighting is ongoing around it.
Nasser Haj Mansour of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said the Conoco gas field and plant came under full control of the group on Saturday morning after days of fighting with the armed group.
The positions are part of a designated de-escalation zone, which covers Idlib governorate, the powerbase of a number of anti-government armed groups in Syria, the Russian military said. “Fire points in those areas will be immediately suppressed with all military means”. It said 29 Russian military policemen had been surrounded by militants and Russia had been forced to break them out in a special operation.

On Tuesday Russia’s Defence Ministry said the waters of the Euphrates had risen as soon as the Syrian army began crossing it, suggesting this could only have happened if upstream dams held by the US -backed opposition had been opened.
“According to our information, USA intelligence services initiated the offensive to halt the successful advance of government troops to the east of Deir al-Zor”, said Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi.
Syria’s state-run SANA news reported the Syrian army had gained control of villages on the banks of the Euphrates River, south of Koniko, named for the American company that built it, Conoco.
The advance of these forces occurs with the consent of Washington in spite of warnings of the Russian part, which told them to leave that company and to not make new attacks against the Syrian army.
