According to reports, six persons, including a close relative of the teenager, have been arrested in relation to the murder. He also requested his father not to inform police as the kidnappers would kill him and his sister.
Sharath, son of I-T officer Niranjan Kumar, had left home at Ullala in his new vehicle on September 12, telling his parents that he will back soon.
On 15 September, a report in Bangalore Mirror noted that Sharath was kidnapped and the kidnappers had demanded Rs 50 lakh ransom. However, he did not return home that night and repeated calls from the family went unanswered. But later in the day he sent a WhatsApp message to his parents from his mobile phone saying that he had been kidnapped. “Please arrange the money as soon as possible at any cost”, reported Deccan Herald. The body was found when the police caught a chain snatcher, allegedly involved in the crime, according to a Times of India report.
Television reports say that Sharath was killed on the night of September 12- the day he was abducted- in a Swift vehicle.
However, a couple of days after the murder they found the body floating in the lake. Along with his associates, he strangulated Sharath and dumped his body in a lake on the outskirts of the city. The men then fished out the body and buried it near the lake.
