Former All-Star Raul Mondesi Sentenced To Eight Years in Prison for Corruption

The elder Mondesi was mayor of San Cristobal, a town about 15 miles west of the capital of Santo Domingo, during 2010-16.

Mondesi’s son, Raul Mondesi now plays for the Kansas City Royals.

Mondesi and others involved in the scandal received their sentence on Wednesday.

A court in the Dominican Republic has sentenced former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Raul Mondesi to eight years in jail on corruption and mishandling of public funds while serving as mayor of his hometown of San Cristobal. Mondesi was also fined 60 million Dominican pesos, or the equivalent of around $1.26 million. Mondesí would serve one term as the mayor of what at the time was the sixth-largest city in the Dominican Republic.

Mondesi, 46, played in Major League Baseball from 1993-2005, most notably playing for the Dodgers from ’93-’99.

Mondesi, 46, played parts of 13 seasons in the majors for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Angels, and Braves. Raul Mondesi Jr. plays in the Brewers minor league system.
