Child dies after being left in hot auto in Etobicoke

Toronto police say a young child has died after being found in a hot auto in Toronto’s west end.

Police, paramedics and Toronto firefighters were called to a building parking lot in the Burnhamthorpe and Mill Rds., in the Markland Wood area near the Mississauga border, at about 2 p.m.

The child was taken to hospital in critical condition after being found in the vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

One person is now in custody.

“It’s so disturbing to hear this”, Barreiro said.

The child of toddler age was pronounced dead in hospital and a person is in custody.

“Once on scene, the first responders contacted police and told us a child had been left in a vehicle”, Const. David Hopkinson said Thursday, explaining the incident was immediately deemed “suspicious”.

Environment Canada said temperatures reached 27 C in the city this afternoon.
