Aliyev vows to ‘punish’ Armenia over illegally occupied Azerbaijani territories

“The leadership of Turkey are mistaken if they think that those documents can be held hostage forever and ratified only at the most opportune occasion from their very point of view”, Sarkisian told the UN General Assembly in NY on September 19.

Yerevan accuses Ankara of linking the ratification of the protocols to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Azerbaijan once again acted as an aggressor, committing numerous flagrant violations of humanitarian law”, the official said, adding that they will continue submitting the documents on those violations to the global organizations and institutions.

“We will enter the spring of 2018 without those, as our experience has demonstrated, futile protocols”, he added.

Nagorno-Karabakh is officially part of Azerbaijan, but since a separatist war ended in 1994 it has been under the control of forces that claim to be local ethnic Armenians. However, the two names are being treated as synonymous.

“For more than 25 years Armenia occupies 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 other regions of our country”, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

He note that Armenia went even further in its aggression policy now trying to associate other countries with the illegal occupation through attracting businesses, trade and investments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. The Minsk Group is co-chaired by France, Russia, and the United States.

Maintaining security and stability is a crucial component in building successful society and regional cooperation, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at at the OIC Contact Group meeting, which was held in NY on the sidelines of the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly in NY.
