St. Thomas junior Ria Patel is pictured in a Facebook profile photo.
Officials say a 20-year-old Eden Prairie woman was the passenger who died in a crash early Sunday morning after the driver fled the scene. (The make and model of auto has also not been released.) When cops arrived, they found a vehicle had crashed into a stop light, and a woman in the passenger’s seat was unresponsive, and trapped inside the auto.
The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office confirmed Patel’s identity and said it should have more information to release later Monday or Tuesday. The Star Tribune identified Patel as the auto crash victim.
Minneapolis police said Patel was riding in a auto that crashed into a stoplight at Stinson Boulevard Northeast and Ridgeway Parkway. The vehicle had hit a stoplight. Officers freed her but she died at the scene.
A witness said the man driving the auto ran away before police arrived. “A search of the area was conducted using K9’s but the male suspect was not located”.
Patel was a student at St. Thomas University, the school said in a post to its website.
