As of Monday afternoon, September 18, there was not a formal response from Hobby Lobby.
This time, it’s a fall decoration in the arts-and-crafts store that’s drawing ire.
The poster says Hobby Lobby should stop selling the item in their stores, but several of those who commented said it was a step too far, because people of many races have picked cotton.
“This décor is wrong on so many levels”, wrote Daniell Rider of Killeen, TX.
Rider added, “There is nothing decorative about raw cotton.A commodity which was gained at the expense of African-American slaves”.
As of Monday afternoon her post had more than 166,000 comments and 15,000 shares. “PLEASE REMOVE THIS ‘decor'”.
“A little sensitivity goes a long way”, she concluded.
One commenter asked, “What does today’s raw cotton have to do with slavery?”
The post has been shared 16,000 times since it was posted on Thursday.
Others said Rider was hypocritical because she presumably uses cotton products like clothing, towels and bedsheets.
