Trump denies making deal with Democrats on DACA

Within the past 24 hours, Trump has hosted a dinner with a bipartisan group of senators that included Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Joe Donnelly of IN; met with a bipartisan group of congressmen that included Democrats Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Stephanie Murphy of Florida, Collin Peterson of Minnesota, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Tom Suozzi of NY, and Peter Welch of Vermont; and invited both Schumer and Pelosi back to the White House for a Wednesday-night dinner.

Pelosi and House Speaker Paul Ryan, D-Wis., met earlier Wednesday to begin discussing the broad parameters of the forthcoming immigration debate.

And he even appeared to shift the goalposts on tax reform following his discussions with Democrats, signaling Wednesday that he was open to to proposals that would see the wealthiest Americans pay more.

Last week, Trump overruled Republican leaders and his own treasury secretary on the debt ceiling agreement.

“The President has been clear that his preference is to get tax reform done on a bipartisan basis”, White House legislative affairs director Marc Short said Tuesday. Congressional Republican leaders were absent from Wednesday’s dinner, which featured Chinese food and chocolate pie for dessert, sources said, and it is unclear how they will respond to the tentative deal or proceed with legislation. Ted Cruz is advocating Wednesday for an overhaul to nation’s tax system.

Cooperation between the parties is “a great thing for our country, ” he said.

“I had a productive conversation with @POTUS @realDonaldTrump about ways we can work together in a bipartisan manner on tax reform”, Manchin tweeted after the dinner, along with a photo of himself and the president.

The Trump administration announced that he’ll be hosting another rally in West Virginia in the coming weeks. “And so that’s why we’re going to give it a shot”.

The corporate income tax rate is now 35 percent, although many companies pay far less than that thanks to abundant loopholes. Trump has promised the biggest tax cut in USA history.

The agreement with Democrats was incorporated into a hurricane-relief emergency funding bill that passed the Senate on Thursday and the House on Friday. “In a revenue-neutral bill, Congress can’t get the rate below 26 percent even if it eliminates almost every corporate tax expenditure”, Gleckman said in a blog posting accompanying the study. They need to pass matching budget resolutions to trigger a process called “reconciliation”, which allows them to pass changes to the tax code through a simple majority in the Senate.

Many GOP lawmakers are hungry for details about the upcoming tax plan. Opponents of the budget plan say they went along with GOP leaders’ pleas this year that they had to pass a bare-bones budget to pave the way for repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. Conservatives went along, only to see leaders struggle and fail to follow through on that promise.

“Right now our state is failing because of Republican leadership”, said Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Anna Langthorn. Second time around: “Nope, put it in writing”.
