Two women struck by a train in Thompson, one killed

One person is dead and another has life-threatening injuries after being hit by a train in Thompson early Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, Connecticut State Police said two people, who were identified as 28-year-old Brittany Lefleche and 26-year-old Morgan Nordby, both of Thompson, were located in that area.

The other woman, 28-year-old Brittany Lefleche, was conscious and alert when rescue workers reached her but suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Worcester, Massachusetts hospital.

The rail line is owned by the Providence and Worcester Railroad, according to state records.

The train was sounding its horn for the grade crossing around the time of the accident, Williams said. It’s unclear why they were on the tracks.

Michael E. Williams, a spokesman for the railroad, called the incident a awful tragedy and said counseling is being provided for the train crew.

Train service was stopped for the investigation but resumed when the scene was cleared at around 6:30 a.m.
