The 64-year-old “Today” show host announced on Twitter Tuesday night that her mother Joan Epstein has passed away at 87.
Gifford’s daughter Cassidy also remembered her grandmother on her Instagram account.
Epstein appeared on television with Gifford numerous times throughout her career and became a favourite guest during Gifford’s 15-year run from 1985-2000 on Live with Regis & Kathie Lee.
“Sending you love. Xx”, Gifford’s “Today” show colleague Jenna Bush Hager tweeted following the sad announcement.
As fans of Gifford may be aware, Epstein has made various appearances alongside her daughter on TV.
“Jesus & Pop Pop are much cooler, anyhow and I know they’re both smiling now that they have you back.so until we meet again, love you to heaven, Cuddles”, she wrote.
During an interview in May 2016, Gifford gushed about her mother’s optimism. “[She’s] the sunniest person I know, expect for maybe Hoday [Kotb]”.
She also opened up about how much her mother meant to her and how much she supported her in achieving her dreams. “And I always try to make her laugh when we talk in the morning”, Gifford said a year ago in a Mother’s Day column.
They wanted Kathie Lee to follow her passion, and that is the same parenting style she used with her own kids. “I call her Joanie Nancy Cuddles Epstein”.
