Homicide detectives in Durham Region are investigating after the torso of a female was found at the Oshawa Harbour on Monday night.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Monday, a fisherman spotted a body part floating in the water and immediately called police.
Police say the coroner’s office has conducted a preliminary examination at the scene and found signs of trauma.
According to police, the torso will undergo a post-mortem examination in Toronto on Tuesday.
The Public Safety Unit and the DRPS Marine Unit will be canvassing the area along with the Homicide Unit looking for evidence.
The exact cause of death has yet to be determined and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
