Amazon eyeing Boston as location for second headquarters, report says

Amazon is reportedly weighing Boston as its second headquarters.

The second headquarters, which Amazon says will be comparable in size to its existing base in Seattle, will mean 50,000 jobs and $5B in investment, the company says. The new office is expected to add 900 jobs and will be close to General Electric’s new headquarters.

Amazon has outlined its criteria for consideration in several pages of guidelines for cities, setting up a competitive bidding process for metro areas with more than 1-million people, a “business-friendly” environment, urban or suburban locations and available real estate.

Amazon is accepting proposals until October 19 and is expected to announce their new location in 2018.

Charlotte is pulling out all the stops to try to convince Amazon to build a new $5 billion dollar campus headquarters in the Charlotte area.

Times whittling its list to three cities: Boston, Washington, and Denver. But Amazon is particular, issuing eight pages of data on what sort of city it’s looking for. And there’s no doubt in analysts’ minds that tax incentives and other breaks will be offered by cities and states.
