U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, the former S.C. governor and Bamberg native, will appear on the cover of Time Magazine’s September 18 issue.
Haley, along with 45 other women, will be on the cover of the publication as part of a Time special project entitled, “Firsts“, which will appear in the September 18 edition.
“We must denounce them at every turn, and make them feel like they are on an island and isolate them the same way they wish to isolate others”, Haley said in the email, which was sent the Thursday after the violence. “When we would come home complaining that we had been teased, my mom would say, ‘Your job is not to show people how you’re different”.
“At the time, I didn’t know exactly how wrong it was, but I did want to know why I couldn’t be part of the group”, Haley said in her Time interview.
But Haley would go much higher than that.
While Haley was SC governor in June 2015, a gunman opened fire on a Bible study group at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest AME church in the South, killing nine people.
Haley anxious her resume wasn’t a right fit for the position.
However, according to the publication’s website and digitized archive of its cover art, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be featured on the cover.
Haley was initially under consideration for secretary of state, and despite her status as a rising Republican star, said she thought they could find someone with more foreign policy experience.
The project called “Firsts” will also be turned into a book, which will be sold starting September 19.
