UFC Champion Cris Cyborg Follows in Conor McGregor's Footsteps, Secures Boxing License

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino has taken an aggressive step towards pursuing a professional boxing career.

UFC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino has been regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters for quite some time but she has a bone to pick with the UFC fighter rankings and sites how the rankings have treated her compared to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. “She loves to challenge her skills”.

“She wants to professionally box in 2018, while of course taking into consideration how Zuffa [UFC’s parent company] feels about it”.

Cyborg won the women’s featherweight title back in July against Tonya Evinger, but has had hard finding opponents willing to step into the cage with her. “Any decision on a boxing match would be made with that in mind”. Her contract expires in October, although she will not become an unrestricted free agent at that time. She is widely considered the most devastating female striker in mixed martial arts history, with 16 career wins by knockout.

The Brazilian MMA fighter is in the works of negotiating a new deal with the UFC.

Justino used Jones as an example of a double standard between her and other fighters. She’s publicly called for a featherweight title defense against former bantamweight champion Holly Holm on December 30 in Las Vegas.

“My [UFC] contract is at 135 pounds”, Holm said.

“I’d like to box”, Cyborg said.

Cyborg gained fame in 2009 when she knocked out the first female star of MMA Gina Carano at Strikeforce in San Jose, California. I’m not in it for the priority of money, but I value myself.

“It is my goal that I can continue fighting for the best promotion in the world and make the biggest fights the fans want to see”. “So, I would expect more money”.

Before her title fight the then champion Germaine de Randamie was stripped of her title for her unwillingness to defend her belt against Cyborg, then Australian fighter Megan Anderson was next inline only to pull out of the proposed fight citing personal issues.

Although issued the license, there are now no boxing fights on the table for the UFC champion.
