He actually spent a fairly long stretch under that identity, serving as Ronin on the New Avengers and during the Skrull invasion.
If you’re not familiar, Ronin is the alias used by multiple characters in the Marvel Comics Universe. It’s not clear what these events are, but it could be related to his family, who we last saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He was left out of Captain America: Civil War entirely, and it seems unlikely he’ll be popping up over in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming release, Thor: Ragnarok.
The rumours for Avengers 4 just keep on rolling in. So why will he make this change?
According to the site, “the events of Avengers: Infinity War (one specific event in particular) leaves Barton in a VERY dark place and is the inciting moment in the archer’s shift into this darker superhero mantle” It’s not to hard to take a good guess at what that could be referring to…
Taking on the mantle of Ronin is something Hawkeye has done before in the comics. There’s been some rumors mounting that Clint Barton could be assuming a new alter ego in the next Avengers movie. The unnamed Avengers 4 will show on May 3, 2019. Plus, Renner’s new haircut for the film may have also teased this upcoming change.
As for what could set Hawkeye down this dark path, there are only a few options based on what we’ve seen from him so far. Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow has gone blonde while Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers has grown a beard. So, if this report is indeed true, it may spell doom for the Barton family, or the Russo brothers have thought up something even more shocking.
