The Raiders have high expectations in 2017 coming off a 12-win campaign last season.
Janikowski joined the Raiders as a surprise first-round pick in 2000 and is one of the few remaining ties to late owner Al Davis. Marcus Mariota’s development the past two years suggests Tennessee is a bigger threat to throw the ball than they have been in years and Taylor is a terrific deep threat that can make defenders miss. Mariota rushed for 26 yards on three carries, along with a touchdown. The Raiders stretched the lead to 16-10 on a 52-yard field goal by kicker Giorgio Tavecchio.
RAIDERS NOTABLE ROOKIE: Defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes. Giving an elite-level Raiders offense a short field might not be a solid game plan here. The following three matchups, and who wins them, will likely determine the outcome of this game between two very similar teams.
Carr finished the game with two touchdowns, throwing for 262 yards while completing 68% of his passes. The Titans had the second-best rushing defense in the National Football League last season.
Given the strength of these two offenses, this game appeared destined to be a shootout. No matter. He pumped a 52-yard field goal through the uprights to close the first half. He has never attempted a field goal in a regular season game. The Raiders had signed Tavecchio on Friday as insurance if Janikowski wasn’t healed and brought him to Tennessee in case he needed to be activated.
Oakland’s preseason placekicker, Giorgio Tavecchio had to step in because of Sebastian Janikowski’s injury, becoming the first Raider to attempt a field goal in over a decade and a half, and he did just fine.
The only other touchdown that was scored in the game was in the fourth-quarter by Raiders receiver Seth Robert from 19 yards out. Tennessee CB LeShaun Sims (groin) was deactivated, with rookie Adoree’ Jackson getting the start in his place. The Raiders should steamroll the woebegone Jets in their home opener.
