E-commerce giant Amazon on 7 September announced the opening its largest fulfilment centre in the country in Hyderabad. The FC ramps up Amazon’s total storage capacity in Telangana to 3.2 million cubic feet.
Pointing out that the ecommerce giant has not just invested in fulfilment centres in Telangana, but also has two sort centres and 50 delivery stations, Saxena said a lot of the packaging being used now is being sourced locally. “We are committed to enabling the ease of doing business and enabling companies like Amazon.in to expand their presence in Telangana”, said Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao during the launch event. “We are totally focussed on our sellers and buyers trying to innovate on how India buys and sells”.
Amazon India’s Vice President for Customer Fulfilment Akhil Saxena said he believes this launch will help the e-commerce firm serve customers better, especially with one-day and two-day deliveries.
“Our fulfilment centre will work closely with local communities, create numerous skilling and employment opportunities for thousands of youth”. Amazon, which also has a software development centre in India and counts some 120,000 businesses as customers for its Web Services unit, sees India as a market vital to its long-term plans.
“Summary: From 100 sellers in two categories to 100 million products we have come a long way in the last four years with 2 lakh sellers”, he said. “With more than 10,000 sellers in Telangana, the selection offered by sellers in the state for immediate delivery has grown more than 120% compared to past year”, Akhil said. The new centre, however, still falls short of the fulfilment centres in the USA, which are about 1million sq ft in size.
Speaking on the occasion, SGK Kishore, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), thanked Amazon for choosing GMR Hyderabad Airport City as the location for their facility.
Leveraging its fulfilment centers with state-of-the-art infrastructure, Amazon provides a delightful customer experience through its program – Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA). Akhil Saxena, vice-president, India customer fulfilment at Amazon India said.
Orders fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for cash on delivery, guaranteed next-day, same-day, morning, and Sunday deliveries.
