Croatia v Kosovo qualifier abandoned due to heavy rain

The game was level at 0-0 when the players went off and will be replayed on Sunday.

Even though Croatia beat Kosovo convincingly in Skhoder a year ago, this string of events made the task for the Croats much more hard and the opposition from the visitors was much stronger than in their first qualifying encounter.

DOMAGOJ VIDA scored the only goal of the game as Croatia defeated Kosovo 1-0 in their re-arranged World Cup Qualifier.

Unsurprisingly against minnows Kosovo, Croatia dominated possession, but their football was certainly affected by a sodden and cut-up pitch after last night’s deluge.

The Group I encounter in Zagreb had been called off due to heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch, and resumed in the 21st minute on Sunday at 1230 GMT.

In a very tight group with the top four sides separated by just five points, Croatia will visit fourth-placed Turkey on Tuesday with a two-point lead over Ukraine.

Ukraine took advantage of that to overtake the Croatians in the standings as a brace from Andriy Yarmolenko sealed a 2-0 home triumph over Turkey. Ukraine are second with 14 points and Iceland are in the third place with 13 points.

The abandonment means that Croatia, temporarily at least, lose top spot in Group I of European qualifying. People can watch and enjoy the live match in TV channels such as HRT 1 and the UEFA match Croatia vs Kosovo can be followed online which is live streamed at WatchESPN.
