This is definitely one of those “don’t try this at home” situations.
Emily Mueller of New Franklin, Ohio is a professional beekeeper.
For most people, a pregnancy photo session would not involve honey bees – but then most people don’t have the level of knowledge about the creatures that Emily Mueller does. “But now, 2 million people have seen photos that I took”. For her pregnancy shoot, she went to friend and photographer Kendrah Damis with an idea: how about shooting with 20,000 swarming bees?
“I am not a bee person”, Damis told the Akron Beacon Journal. “I didn’t realize there was one on my arm”.
You may be wondering – what attracted Mueller to bees in the first place? They also remove hives for homeowners and businesses, according to the Beacon Journal. Being the profession, Mueller was not afraid of the bees, unlike others.
She was stung three times during the shoot when she unknowingly sat on a bee and accidentally crushed bees on her lip and arm.
The Queen bee was put in a cage and attached to a branch which the rest of the swarm flew to.
She also consulted with her doctor to make sure her baby wouldn’t be endangered.
Emily is a beekeeper and chose to include her little buddies in her fourth pregnancy by clicking some cute shots with them. “That might sound insane to some, but it really was”.
Emily Mueller is expecting her fourth child in November and wanted to honor the occasion with a photo shoot. She squished a couple of them.
“Those bites were all my fault”, she said.
“I felt calm throughout, though I did get stung three times”. She’s been around them for years.
“When we made a decision to begin keeping bees, it was after our second miscarriage and during a time I needed something else to focus on emotionally”, she told BabyCenter. “I did have to flick a bee off my hand, and I unconsciously hunched down when they were flying around”.
Emily explained how bees became a huge part of her life, and more than just her career.
“I know a lot of people are looking at this video, thinking, ‘This lady is insane, ‘” she told InsideEdition.com.
