North Korea: Talking is not the answer, says Trump

North Korea’s missile programme presents an “unprecedented threat to worldwide security”, Theresa May said as she vowed to speed up the implementation of sanctions against Kim Jong Un’s regime.

“Talks are not the solution”, US President Donald Trump said on Twitter today, quoted by world agencies.

On Thursday, the USA flew some of its most advanced warplanes in bombing drills with ally South Korea- responses to Pyongyang’s test launch of a ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday.

One step will be to leave no doubt about the United States commitment to deterrence and USA willingness to respond to any North Korean nuclear blackmail or use of such a weapon.

A successful USA test strike against an intermediate-range missile Wednesday raises fresh questions about the feasibility of the US military intercepting a North Korean missile test as a means of deterring the country from future provocative launches.

Japan’s Defense Ministry is seeking a record-high budget to add missile interceptors and other equipment to defend the country from more North Korean weapons launches.

This refers to North Korea’s attempt to strengthen its weapons capabilities and use them to test its bargaining power against the United States. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe later called it “unprecedented, serious and a grave threat”. -South Korea war games as rehearsals for an invasion and described Tuesday’s missile launch over Japan as a response to the drills.

North Korea has said its firing of a missile over Japan on Tuesday was “the first step” of military operations in the Pacific.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has made it clear that he is ready to negotiate with North Korea, provided they are ready for nuclear disarmament.

The U.S. territory of Guam is home to key military bases and strategic long-range bombers that North Korea finds threatening.

It comes as tensions on the Korean Peninsula were raised yet again after Kim fired a test ballistic missile over Japan, sparking global outrage.
