Police identify New Milford man killed in officer-involved shooting

Authorities say an armed suspect who fled from Milwaukee police was shot by an officer after a confrontation. They also identified the officer as 33-year-old Christopher Hayes, who has been on the force for three years. He was the only officer to fire a shot.

Police are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting near 29th and Wisconsin in Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon, August 31st.

As officers arrived, Sfaelos came out of the house with a shotgun and ran into the nearby woods.

According to police, Sfaelos eventually exited the woods and approached officers, ignoring demands from police to drop the shotgun.

The deadly officer-involved shooting is now under investigation by Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime detectives and the State’s Attorney’s Office. Officers pursued the suspect on foot, caught up with him – and an officer fired his handgun, striking the suspect.

He was pronounced dead later that evening at Danbury Hospital.

Detectives and representatives of the State Attorney’s office are continuing to investigate the incident at this time, police said.
