A 76 gas station at the corner of Castle Drive and Lavon Drive in Garland mistakenly listed a price of $8.02 per gallon for a short time Thursday.
And Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton warned Dallas drivers that some gas stations were trying to cash in on the city’s panic by over-inflating gas prices.
The crunch prompted QuikTrip, one of the nation’s largest convenience store chains, to temporarily halt gasoline sales at about half its 135 stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh told the Star-Telegram Wednesday that the company plans to stop selling gasoline at roughly half its stores this weekend. The two smaller stations across Haltom Road from the Haltom City gas-and-taco giant said they were unsure if their supplies would last. The coastal refineries in Texas have been shut down since before Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Friday night. Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton said Texas has a supply of more than 230 million barrels of gasoline, and drivers should simply wait three or four days to fill up if they can.
Several pipelines were also closed, potentially stranding crude in Texas that is destined for refineries elsewhere and interrupting gasoline supplies to other parts of the country. “There is a challenge of logistics, getting that gasoline from where it is stored to the gas stations, and that is a real challenge and the people are working through that”.
Multiple news outlets are reporting gas stations running out of gas.
The association survey says USA gasoline prices Thursday averaged $2.45 per gallon, which is a dime higher than a week ago and 5 cents more than on Wednesday.
“Prices are moving higher”, he said.
