While we were sleeping in the United States, Liverpool announced that they broke their transfer record by signing 22-year-old midfielder Naby Keita for just slightly over £50 million ($64.8 million).
But despite Keïta’s arrival adding extra competition for Henderson in the middle of the park, the England global insists that his acquisition is an excellent one from the club.
Some took a critical view of Tottenham’s failure to land another player, but others could see the amusing side at the same time.
On Monday, Liverpool confirmed the club record signing of Guinea global Keita having agreed to pay a £49m release clause that comes into effect next summer in addition to an undisclosed premium.
Liverpool, who are also desperate to sign Virgil Van Dijk, have tracked Oxlade-Chamberlain all summer but the sticking point is whether Arsenal would be prepared to sell the England global to a direct rival.
The England worldwide has played every game of Arsenal’s so far, including Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
Meanwhile, talk of Southampton defender van Dijk joining Liverpool has intensified.
“If you play for top teams, you are going to sign good players”, said the England global. “I know they’ll get a lot of criticism, especially after our game, but at the same time we were very good”.
That could spell bad news for Liverpool as if they continue with their refusal to sell Coutinho then it looks like Barca may try and hijack their attempts to sign Lemar. “Anyone coming to Anfield that day would have struggled”.
