Power is expected to be restored around 11 a.m.
Fire crews say the mechanical failure occurred at the substation off of Sewer Plant Road and caused an outage into the Minden-Gardnerville area.
The outage was first reported at 8:11 a.m.
Ralph Jones, a battalion chief with Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, told the Tribune that officials are responding to multiple other calls in the area, most likely due to the power outage.
NV Energy says almost 4,000 customers are without power in Douglas County.
Power was restored to most areas within a couple of hours. An NV Energy representative said there are issues with the backup power systems. But almost 6,000 remained without power into Monday afternoon, including 4,300 near Stateline on Lake Tahoe’s southeast shore and about 1,000 in the Glenbrook-area on Tahoe’s east shore.
According to the district, the fire was confined to the substation, and there were no injuries. The Kingsbury line is under construction and main backup was damaged in the Carson fire.
Power has been restored to Carson Valley, while 5,514 Lake Tahoe customers are still in the dark after a fire in the NV Energy Substation at Roundhill at Lake Tahoe knocked electricity out to almost 9,000 Douglas County power company customers.
