Leeds United Not Looking To Snap Up Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle

Scotland worldwide Hanley, who only joined the Magpies last summer, has struggled to break into the first team and is deemed surplus to requirements this season.

However, having started the season as Newcastle’s first choice, Gayle stuttered in their opening games against Tottenham and fellow Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town and was subbed for both before being left out of the team for the 3-0 win over West Ham on Saturday.

Benitez is having to offload players before being allowed to strengthen his squad.

Lazaar is believed to be wanted by Genoa, Bologna, Atalanta and Real Betis while Hull City have an interest in Colback and are ready to pay a portion of his wages on a loan deal.

The 26-year-old scored 23 goals in 32 Championship games for Newcastle last season and it was quickly suggested that Leeds, who are looking for strikers and have money to spend after selling Chris Wood for £15m, could be an option for Gayle.

If Gayle could replicate the form which he managed with Newcastle United last season, Leeds United could become an incredible force in the division; especially after the exciting captures of Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski who seem to have taken the Championship by storm.

Chelsea’s Loic Remy will not be returning to Tyneside, where he spent a successful loan stint three years ago while Benitez won’t gamble on the fitness of Liverpool’s Danny Ings – a Toon target before his arrival – because he has been out injured for the past two years.
