Des Moines man was intentionally set on fire, police say

DES MOINES- Des Moines police say a man has died from the severe burns he received in a vehicle fire, and investigators are treating the case as a homicide.

Grand Forks Police are seeking a man they say is a material witness in a homicide in Des Moines, Iowa, and are warning the public to look out for the potentially unsafe person.

Des Moines Fire Department personnel took the victim to the Burn Treatment Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he died Sunday as a result of his wounds.

Des Moines Police Department detectives, crime scene investigators and arson investigators have interviewed witnesses, and are following up on leads and examining forensic evidence gathered at the scene. Police in Iowa say he may have information critical to a homicide investigation in Des Moines and believe he may be in Grand Forks.

Authorities in Grand Forks confirmed he stayed at a hotel here and was seen at Cabelas Monday afternoon.

UPDATE (9:45 p.m.): Grand Forks Police have now arrested the man wanted in connection to an Iowa murder investigation.

He was last seen wearing light colored blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.
