Authorities say a MA man used a fireplace log to bludgeon a 72-year-old woman to death inside the home they shared.
Julia Fernandez was found dead inside her Columbus Avenue home Sunday night.
34, as a suspect in Fernandez’s killing, and police in North Providence were able to take him into custody Monday morning.
Police said they were able to identify Danny Lopes Jr.
Cruz said yesterday his office would seek Daniel Jose Lopes Jr.’s return to MA through a governor’s warrant to face charges he murdered 72-year-old Julia Fernandes.
Lopes was known to West Bridgewater police, Chief Victor Flaherty said, declining to elaborate.
The Brockton Enterprise interviewed an ex-girlfriend of Lopes’ and her mother, whom he had lived with, and both expressed shock and disbelief at the allegations. One was arrested on an outstanding warrant, another – 20-year-old Alex Monteiro, according to The Enterprise – arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive. He is being held in Rhode Island as a fugitive from justice and will face a murder charge when returned to MA.
