Teen stabbed in southern Manitoba church

A teenage girl was rushed to hospital after police say a man stabbed her at a church in Winkler, Man.

She was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre by ambulance, and then airlifted to Health Sciences Centre by STARS Ambulance. She’s now listed in stable condition.

Police arrested a 39-year-old Winkler man in connection with the stabbing.

A 39-year-old Winkler man was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a risky goal.

“We have been unable to determine a motive for this attack and that is quite frustrating”.

The public attack is an anomaly in the rural community of 12,000.

“It’s devastating to hear”.

Winkler Mayor Martin Harder called the incident “very bizarre” but did not have any further details.

“We’re as shocked as anybody”.
