Authorities say the alleged suspect, 53-year-old Joshua Hubert, put the girl in his vehicle, strangled her and threw her off a bridge into Lake Quinsigamond. Now the man suspected of kidnapping her faces arraignment today.
The girl was found around 4 a.m. Sunday in Shrewsbury.
As their investigation intensified, police identified Joshua Herbert as the person who allegedly kidnapped the child from her grandparents’ residence around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. She was there for a family party, police say.
What happened next was shocking.
She was choked and then thrown off a bridge into Lake Quinsigamond, but survived the fall and swam to shore, police say.
The victim survived the drop and swam to shore in Shrewsbury, where she was found with visible, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the girl was thrown from the Interstate 290 bridge based on where she ended up in Shrewsbury, but investigators are still working to confirm.
Hubert has been charged with kidnapping and is due in court Monday morning.
