Grace Mugabe’s immunity matter escalated to Parliament

The party has accused the minister of being an enemy of a nonracial country.

The wife of President Robert Mugabe allegedly attacked 20-year-old model Gabriella Engels with an electrical extension cord at an upmarket hotel in Johannesburg where the couple’s two sons were staying.

Police had placed border posts on “red alert” to prevent Mrs. Mugabe from leaving but South Africa’s worldwide relations minister said she had granted diplomatic immunity to the wife of Zimbabwe’s 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe. The exchange is said to have happened last week during the 37th Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit that was held in Pretoria.

She reportedly responded by saying it was Mandela’s mistake.

As enshrined in Our constitution, South Africa belongs to all who live in it black and white.

Mrs. Mugabe returned home from South Africa early on Sunday, but her immunity was widely-criticised in South Africa, where August has been designated Women’s Month to highlight concerns around gender violence and abuse.

The 93-year-old leader is not letting go of the matter of Mandela and land redistribution in South Africa.

At the weekend, Mugabe slammed Mandela during a funeral in Harare, saying he made too many concessions towards the white minority.

Mugabe said Mandela insisted going alone to negotiate with the apartheid government.

“The DA has filed papers in the Constitutional Court requesting direct access to argue that the decision of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, to grant diplomatic immunity to Grace Mugabe, should be set aside as wholly without legal merit and should thus be declared unconstitutional and invalid”, said James Selfe, the chairman of the DA’s federal executive.
