Coast Guard rescuing by helicopter Houston residents caught in Harvey’s path

The Coast Guard rescued a 30-year-old fisherman who was experiencing heart attack-like symptoms from a boat off the coast of Hampton, N.H. Friday evening, officials said.

In a conference call Sunday with reporters, Oditt says Coast Guard personnel and aircraft from around the country have been dispatched to Texas.

Coast Guard helicopter crews along the southern portion of the Texas coast are reporting the rescue of nearly 40 people, starting from the morning before Hurricane Harvey made landfall.

The U.S. Coast Guard partnered with Illinois officials to police charter operations on Lake Michigan and the Illinois River, ending voyages for 22 vessels. Maryland Natural Resources Police, Charles County Fire Department, Prince William County Fire Dept., Prince William County Police Dept., Quantico Fire Dept., and Fairfax Air Rescue also launched to search.

One of the two people was able to swim to shore before authorities arrived.

A Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew responded to the scene and pulled the people to safety.
